A truly historic exhibit is coming to the already historic Biltmore Estate this Spring! From May 17th until October 7th 2018 the amazing glass works of world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly will be showcased in The Biltmore’s beloved Frederick Law Olmstead-designed gardens. Chihuly’s dramatic large-scale glass sculptures have revolutionized the Studio Glass movement with their bright colors, organic shapes and their sheer size. All sorts of “firsts” are at play here; the first art exhibit in The Biltmore’s Gardens and the first garden exhibition of Chihuly’s works in North Carolina. There is also the fascinating visual interplay of 21st century artwork with 19th century architecture. Chihuly’s enchanting installations have been seen displayed at cultural institutions throughout the world. In addition to stunning architectural installations, Chuhuly began his “Garden Cycle”, a series of exhibitions within botanical settings in 2001. The artist has taken his breathtaking glass works to more than ten notable US gardens as well as the Royal Botanic Gardens near London. And now, we are thrilled to have Chihuly right here in Asheville at The Biltmore Estate.
Much like the popular Biltmore Christmas Candlelight Tours, special scheduled evening tours will be available. The garden sculptures will be specially lit and the interplay of the evening sky, the lights and the glass should be amazing!
